Sharing knowledge on mobility policies across the border

Het Nationaal Verkeerskundecongres 2025 vindt plaats in Roermond, Limburg. Deze regio is sterk betrokken bij internationale samenwerking, omdat ze zo dicht bij Duitsland en België ligt. Dit extra programma onderdeel hebben we voor het eerst toegevoegd om inzichten uit te wisselen over hoe transportbeleid over de grenzen heen wordt ontwikkeld en gedeeld.

In dit minisymposium gaan we vanuit een praktisch perspectief in op lokale en regionale transportplanning. Vanuit Keulen gaat Friederike Christian in op de uitdagingen en kansen die voortkwamen uit de ontwikkeling van hun bekroonde Sustainable Urban Mobility Planning (SUMP)-proces. Vanuit de provincie Belgisch-Limburg (Vlaanderen) geeft Sven Lieten ons inzicht in hoe samenwerking tussen verschillende overheidsniveaus én hoe beleidscoördinatie over de grens met de Nederlandse regionale overheden tot stand komen. Limburg en Noord-Brabant hebben de ambitie om hun steden te begeleiden bij de ontwikkeling van SUMP. Vanuit CROW reflecteert Marco van Burgsteden, die werkt aan een leidraad voor welzijnsgericht lokaal transportbeleid, reflecteren op de bijdragen.

This edition of the Dutch National Transport Conference is situated in Roermond, Limburg. This region is highly involved in international co-operation, since it is so close to Germany and Belgium. For this reason, we have added an extra activity to the programme to exchange insights on how transport policies are made and shared across the borders.

In this minisymposium, we will go into local and regional transport planning from a practical point of view. From Cologne, Friederike Christian will go into the challenges and opportunities that arose from the development of their award-winning Sustainable Urban Mobility Planning (SUMP) process. From the province of Belgian Limburg, Flanders, Sven Lieten will give us insights on how to co-operate between different levels of government and how policy co-ordination across the border with the Dutch regional authorities is achieved. The Dutch provinces of Limburg and Noord-Brabant have taken up the ambition to guide their cities through the process of SUMP development. [Speaker TBC]. From CROW, Marco van Burgsteden, working on a guideline for wellbeing-based local transport policies, will reflect on the contributions.

The minisymposium will conclude with a Q&A and discussion with the attendees on how we can improve cross-border learning and co-operation. Because traffic does not stop at the border.
